A Fabulous Day with Excellent Results

There was a certain scepticism throughout our medallist competition dancers and their families as to whether the weather would be kind enough for us to make the journey to Whitby for the UKA Medallist Competition on 29th January 2010. Throughout January the snow came and went until we thought that the weather was good enough to brave, indeed after our classes Saturday lunch time we set off to the North East with glorious sunshine. Donning our 'Shades', we decided on a steady journey to our hotel in Middlesborough. After one comfort break at Wetherby Services (where it had become decidedly colder!) we continued, with a slight detour as my Sat Nav wasn't working, to our very snowy destination. After a relaxing evening, and a good nights sleep, we had a hearty breakfast before completing the journey, about 45 mins to the venue in Whitby.

The Sports centre was an excellent venue, although quite warm with the amount of dancers there, and David Roberts and his team pushed the events through with their usual speed and efficiency. We only had five dancers competing so our task was a little easier today, but we were very pleased with the following results:

NAME AGE / GRADE BALLROOM LATIN
LEWIS BAKER (10/11BRONZE) 1ST 1ST
NIKITA MAI (12/13 GOLD) 2ND 2ND
DANIELLE FLEMING (12/13 GOLD) 6TH 5TH
AMBER GOSPEL (14/15 PRE BRONZE) 3RD 2ND
BRITTANY WOOLLEY (14/15 PRE BRONZE) 2ND 1ST

Congratulations to you all!. Although we were at the other end of the country, the event was finished quite early so we were still back home at relatively sensible times. It requires a lot of hard work, lessons and practice to achieve these excellent results, but there are obviously many more contributing factors. A big thank you must go to all the parents and grand parents that set aside the time, and went to the expense to make it possible to compete this weekend. Good luck to you all that are competing at our next UKA Medallist Competition which is at Wythenshaw on 21st March 2010
